Overview:
Betta imbellis, also known as the Peaceful Betta, is a striking labyrinth fish with shimmering blues and greens. Smaller and less aggressive than the common Betta splendens, they make a fascinating addition to planted aquariums.
Origin:
Native to Southeast Asia, found in rice paddies, swamps, and slow-moving streams.
Feeding:
Carnivores that thrive on high-quality micro pellets, flakes, and frozen/live foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.
Tank Mates:
Generally peaceful with small, calm fish like rasboras, tetras, Corydoras, and shrimp. Avoid fin-nippers and other aggressive species.
Aggression:
Males can be mildly territorial but are much less aggressive than Betta splendens. Best kept singly or in carefully chosen communities.
Experience Level:
Great for beginner to intermediate aquarists, hardy but appreciate stable, planted aquariums.
