Description

Salvini Cichlid (Trichromis salvini)

The Salvini Cichlid is a striking and colorful Central American species, admired for its vibrant yellow body, bold black lateral stripe, and brilliant red and blue highlights. Native to rivers and lagoons in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala, the Salvini stands out as one of the most visually stunning medium-sized cichlids. When in breeding condition, their colors intensify dramatically, with males displaying fiery red throats and females showing even richer yellows.

Although smaller than many other Central American cichlids, Salvini Cichlids are feisty and territorial, especially when breeding. They are best suited for experienced aquarists who can provide a spacious aquarium with plenty of rockwork, driftwood, and open swimming space. With proper care and planning, their dazzling colors and lively personality make them a rewarding choice.
