Melanochromis maingano

The Melanochromis maingano is a stunning Mbuna cichlid from Lake Malawi, admired for its bold, electric-blue coloration accented by striking black horizontal stripes. This hardy and active fish is a favorite among Malawi enthusiasts and adds vibrant movement and energy to rocky aquascapes.

In the wild, M. maingano inhabits the rocky shoreline areas of Likoma Island, establishing territories among cracks and caves. In the aquarium, they display similar behavior and thrive in rock-heavy setups with plenty of hiding spaces. Like other Mbuna, they are territorial and can be aggressive, so they are best kept in larger aquariums with carefully chosen tank mates.
