Description
Elliotii Cichlid (Thorichthys ellioti)
The Elliotii Cichlid is a colorful and peaceful Central American cichlid, closely related to the popular Firemouth (Thorichthys meeki). Native to rivers and lagoons of Mexico, this species is admired for its vibrant mix of reds, blues, and iridescent spangling across the body and fins. Unlike many cichlids, the Elliotii is relatively mild-mannered, making it a great choice for community aquariums with other peaceful or semi-aggressive species.
During breeding, males intensify their colors, displaying vivid red throats and bellies while defending small territories. They are hardy, adaptable, and full of character—an excellent species for aquarists who want a colorful cichlid without the extreme aggression of larger Central American species.
