Description
Myrnae Topaz Cichlid (Cryptoheros myrnae)
The Myrnae Topaz Cichlid is a colorful and lively Central American cichlid, native to the rivers of Costa Rica. Often called the Topaz Cichlid, this species is admired for its golden-yellow body accented with shimmering blue-green spangling and bold dark bars. During breeding, their colors intensify dramatically, with females showing especially rich golden tones.
Closely related to the Convict and Honduras Red Point Cichlids, the Myrnae Topaz is hardy, adaptable, and full of personality. While semi-aggressive like most Central American cichlids, they are smaller and more manageable than larger species such as Red Devils or Jaguars. They thrive in tanks with plenty of rockwork, driftwood, and hiding spots, and do best in pairs or small groups.
