Description
Rainbow Cichlid (Herotilapia multispinosa)
The Rainbow Cichlid is a small, colorful, and peaceful Central American cichlid, native to the lakes and rivers of Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Honduras. As its name suggests, this species is admired for its vibrant golden-yellow body highlighted with iridescent blue and green accents, which intensify during breeding. Hardy and adaptable, the Rainbow Cichlid is one of the most beginner-friendly cichlids, making it an excellent choice for community aquariums.
Unlike many other Central American cichlids, the Rainbow is calm and relatively non-aggressive, coexisting well with other peaceful or semi-aggressive fish of similar size. They thrive in aquariums with plants, driftwood, and hiding spots, and display fascinating pair-bonding behaviors when breeding.
