Description
Sajica T-Bar Cichlid (Amatitlania sajica)
The Sajica T-Bar Cichlid is a hardy and attractive Central American dwarf cichlid, native to the rivers of Costa Rica. Named for the distinctive T-shaped dark band running down its body, this species displays earthy tones of beige and brown accented with blue and gold highlights that intensify during breeding. Males are larger and more colorful, while females often show richer golden hues when spawning.
Closely related to Convict and Honduras Red Point Cichlids, the Sajica is less aggressive than many Central American species, making it a good choice for aquarists who want the charm of a cichlid without extreme territorial behavior. They thrive in aquariums with rockwork, driftwood, and hiding places, and will often form strong pair bonds, displaying fascinating courtship and parental care behaviors.
