Description
Cynotilapia pulpican
The Cynotilapia pulpican is a striking mbuna cichlid from Lake Malawi, known for its vivid blue coloration, bold black barring, and bright yellow accents in the dorsal fin. Native to the Pulpican Reef area, this species is highly prized among hobbyists for its manageable size, stunning appearance, and lively behavior. Males display the most intense colors, especially when defending territories or courting females, while females are more understated in appearance.
As a classic rock-dwelling mbuna, C. pulpican thrives in aquariums with rocky structures, caves, and plenty of hiding places. Though semi-aggressive and territorial, they are often considered less aggressive than many other mbuna, making them suitable for carefully planned Malawi community aquariums.
