Description

Chalinochromis popelini

The Chalinochromis popelini is an elegant and distinctive cichlid from Lake Tanganyika, admired for its elongated body, creamy-white base color, and bold horizontal striping that runs from head to tail. Closely related to Chalinochromis brichardi, this species is equally striking and is well-suited for aquarists who want to keep a unique and authentic Tanganyikan setup.

In the wild, C. popelini is found along the rocky shorelines of Lake Tanganyika, where it establishes territories among cracks, caves, and rock piles. In the aquarium, it thrives in rock-heavy aquascapes with plenty of hiding spots. While somewhat territorial, especially during breeding, it is generally less aggressive than many African cichlids and can be kept with other Tanganyikan species in larger tanks.
