Description
Julidochromis transcriptus “Gombi”
The Julidochromis transcriptus “Gombi” is a small, beautifully patterned cichlid from Lake Tanganyika, known for its striking black-and-white banding and compact size. Also called the Gombi Julie, this rock-dwelling species is prized for both its bold coloration and fascinating behavior. Despite being one of the smaller Julidochromis species, it makes a big impact in aquariums with its territorial displays and unique swimming style.
In the wild, these cichlids are found along the rocky shorelines of the Gombi area of Lake Tanganyika. They prefer rocky aquascapes with plenty of caves, crevices, and hiding spots where they can establish territories and breed. While somewhat territorial, they are less aggressive than many other African cichlids, making them a great choice for Tanganyikan community setups.
